STUDENT CENTERED LESSONS USING HIGHER ORDER THINKING
Below are a few student centered lesson plans offered through Intel's project based learning website. In these units students ask themselves curriculum framing questions that address big ideas, help students relate subjects, investigate questions, and demonstrate what they have learned. Students learn to use their higher order thinking skills such as: knowledge, comprehension, application analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
HEALTHY EATING: ARE WE WHAT WE EAT?
For Science and Math subjects in grades K-2. In this unit students learn about the food pyramid, how to eat healthy,why eating healthy is important, and so much more. Students collect data, make healthy menus, create slide show presentations, and learn how media influences people to eat certain foods. This lesson is great for the students and the teachers because everyone gets to learn about eating healthy. I like how this lesson promotes good health and teaches students why eating healthy is so important.
TEACHER'S PET
For Science subjects grades 2-3. In this unit students learn responsible pet care, how pets and wild animals are different, what do animals need to survive, what characteristics make a good pet, why all animals can't live in the same habitat, and more. Students learn a lot about animal behavior, habitat, and survival. This unit is great for students and teachers. This unit gets the students asking a lot of questions, making graphs, and comparing and contrasting information. I love that this unit teaches students about facts and persuasive language.
FROM SEA TO SEA
For Social Studies, Mathematics, & Language Arts grades 3-5. In this unit students learn about their surrounding cities and how their cities economic trade impacts how their cities thrive and function. Students collect data and use their skills to analyze the implications of trade in their communities. Students demonstrate what they have learned by teaching other students. I like how the students learn important values about how our economic system functions for society. This unit is great for any teacher or student interested in teaching or learning about Economics.
